The imagination is powerful and it can create a stressful world that doesn’t exist because it can feel uncomfortable to say “I don’t know”. That is also what makes art-making so valuable: focusing our wild imaginations to create things that inspire and move us forward.
There is so much art out in the world that lies comfortably on the surface and does not delve underneath to the shadow parts of the artist. I used to think art was where I wanted to escape from anxiety, frustration, loneliness, sadness, disappointment, insecurity, longing, anger, confusion, stress, and fear. That list could go on endlessly.
Yet I have learned that my shadow self contain seeds that can bloom the most unusual and interesting flowers.
